The ultraviolet (UV) treatment process is a fast, chemical-free method of water purification that works through a purely physical mechanism. Ultraviolet light penetrates microorganisms and alters their genetic material by damaging or mutating their DNA. When this DNA damage occurs, the microorganism’s genetic instructions become disrupted, incomplete, or unreadable. Without accurate genetic instructions, the microorganism can no longer carry out essential life functions such as metabolism, growth, or reproduction. As a result, the organism is effectively neutralized, rendered harmless, and will eventually die off. During the UV purification process, water flows continuously through a sealed stainless steel chamber, commonly referred to as a reactor. Inside this reactor is a specially designed UV-producing lamp that emits ultraviolet light at a precise wavelength known to be effective for microbial inactivation. As water passes through the chamber, microorganisms present in the water are exposed to a controlled and sufficient dose of UV light. This exposure prevents bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens from reproducing or causing infection. Because UV treatment does not introduce chemicals or alter the taste, odor, or chemical composition of the water, it is considered a safe and environmentally friendly purification method. The process provides rapid and reliable disinfection, ensuring that the water leaving the reactor is microbiologically safe for use.
